Medical clinic

“The Blue Lagoon’s skin treatments for medical purposes are an important part of the company’s operations”

Its medical function is interwoven with the history of the company. Since 1994, Blue Lagoon has offered treatment for psoriasis based on the unique healing power of the Blue Lagoon’s geothermal seawater and the use of Blue Lagoon Skincare treatment products.

For many years, Blue Lagoon has offered Icelanders natural treatment for psoriasis in the Blue Lagoon’s Medical Clinic free of charge and at no cost to the state.” These treatments are approved by the Ministry of Health.  There were no changes there in the months during which the company was allowed to stay open or operate without restrictions, which would have otherwise obstructed this service during the COVID-19 period.

Last year, Blue Lagoon provided treatment to Icelandic psoriasis patients free of charge and without any state contribution, as in recent years. The number of treatment sessions during the year was 1,640. In a normal season, there are, on average, about 3,000 treatment sessions per year, but the operations of the Silica Hotel were disrupted due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

It is a pleasant moment to smear one’s face with mud and wallow in the silica-infused water. The facilities at the Medical Clinic are exemplary and the staff is very obliging.

I have been a regular visitor to the Blue Lagoon Medical Clinic and its light therapy since 2012, during which time I have been free of rashes and other psoriasis complications.
For me, the treatment in the Blue Lagoon has managed to keep down outbreaks of rashes all year round and I haven’t had to use other creams or treatments than those of the Blue Lagoon.

Sales, marketing and product development

“Blue Lagoon takes its role very seriously as one of the biggest employers in Reykjanes and emphasizes its positive impact on social prosperity. The company has therefore given considerable support to various community projects over the years. Examples include support for all the sports clubs in the area and the development of the golf course in Grindavík. At the same time, the company supports various humanitarian projects nationwide, especially those related to public health and wellness. One must not forget the Medical Clinic, since Blue Lagoon has been offering Icelanders treatments for psoriasis since 1994.”
