Stakeholders engagement
“Blue Lagoon prioritizes communication and measures that promote sustainable development in collaboration with key stakeholders.”
Blue Lagoon Stakeholders
In 2021, a reassessment of the main stakeholders of Blue Lagoon was carried out, according to Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) standards and ISO 26000 Guidelines. Blue Lagoon places emphasis on maintaining good relations with its principal stakeholders. By better framing the issue, Blue Lagoon is even more committed to raising public awareness of sustainability and promoting greater communication and measures towards sustainable development in cooperation with its main stakeholders.
Cooperation and solidarity
Blue Lagoon operates in collaboration with the UNESCO Reykjanes Global Geopark (RGP) and the municipalities in Suðurnes. The co-operation aims to strengthen Reykjanes as a destination, promote sustainable utilization in harmony with nature and enhance know-how, attitudes, and the protection of geological monuments.
At the initiative of Blue Lagoon, the facilities at Reykjanes lighthouse have been improved, e.g. with water pipes and toilet facilities in good cooperation with the Friends of the Reykjanes Lighthouse Association and Reykjanesbær, among others. An employee working on behalf of Blue Lagoon oversees environmental and service aspects in the area.
The goal is to overhaul the lighthouse in 2022. This is done under the auspices of a servicing company majority-owned by Blue Lagoon; Þjónustumiðstöðin Reykjanes ehf.
Blue Lagoon is an active participant in various co-operation and enhancement projects that contribute to the development of Iceland as a well-being destination.
